Flippin’ Pain went international this month as Professor Cormac Ryan presented in Brussels.
“Pain Treatment, Management and Prevention – Is Europe Providing Adequate Access?” was an event held by Societal Impact Pain (SIP), a partnership led by EFIC (The European Pain Federation) and Pain Alliance Europe, which aims to raise awareness and change pain policy.
Over 80 researchers, clinicians, lived experience experts and Members of the European Parliament joined the event on 16 October. The question on everyone’s lips was: “are we doing enough?”, in terms of preventative care, health promotion and providing enough access to care.
Cormac, who is Professor for Clinical Rehabilitation at Teesside University, as well as a Flippin’ Pain Community Pain Champion, presented the approach and findings of Flippin’ Pain. He explored how the campaign has been designed with everyone in mind, to act as a ‘first step’ towards pain management.
Flippin’ Pain and other campaigns (like EFIC’s ‘Plain Talking’ initiative) were discussed positively. Discussions were held around the importance of good education for all sections of society: including for patients, health professionals, politicians and the public in general. The need for more EU funded research on the topic of chronic pain was also discussed at length.
